Steve came across this trailer while working on a GPS project for a client. The trailer was in fair shape with good rubber that held air (even though it was totally flat at the time). We picked up the trailer for a good deal and it has been sitting on the back burner until we have time to devote to this project.
Our Phase I plans are to:
- Completely disassemble and sand blast,
- Replace flat bed with new 16 gauge sheet metal,
- Fabricate raised sides, and
- Rebuild brakes, replace and repack wheel bearings.
At this point we will have a very functional trailer and we will take a step back to assess where we wish to go from here. We believe we will want to then move onto Phase II and:
- Fabricate a hinged and removable top,
- Install a roof top tent,
- Wire for power,
- Fabricate a secure location for a fridge/freezer,
- Build a simple kitchen area, and
- Consider some sort of water heater for hot showers.
We want to keep this project fairly simple and it will be a budget build. At this point we only have $100 into the project and should be able to complete Phase I for $400 additional. Phase II, even without the roof top tent, will cost us at least $500. It would be great to finish Phase I and II (again minus the roof top tent) for $1,200, heck, lets try to do it for $1,000!
